Lilac Deppei

Blank Timesheets

missing persons posters torn off street posts unceremoniously
unfound but understood, accepted, replacements now wanted
I saw my silhouette traced out inside the classified ads
even though I left the ghosts behind I just can't help but feeling haunted

the gravediggers whistle my song into the long and dreary night
the nighthawks will hum along though they don't get the melody right
they will shovel the coarse dirt into the pit where my body would otherwise be
the supervisor clicks her tongue; you can always trust a rabbit to flee

I sneak into the site later, when everybody's gone to bed
Give flowers to my friends so I can properly mourn the dead
slink away before the dawn falls, and leave a decoy in my stead
if they knew that i'd came back here, they'd all but surely have my head

worms brought up from morning rain will serve a good meal for the dove
bleeding hearts don't always stop when push comes back to fatally shove
oh yawgoog my yawgoog, in the end you will always tell my story
persona non grata; memento mori
