A Public Service Announcement
To begin;
This is not an apology, we have nothing to apologize for. Technically all of this information was available through public means, our organization has simply decided we've reached a stage where it couldn't hurt to have some more transparency on our end, especially if we want to better reach our goals without mass resistance, intentional or not.
That being said,
Have you ever had weird dreams? Not the typical, like, confusing dreams. Making a thanksgiving dinner in your best friend's childhood home for all the English professors you've disappointed throughout your life, that kind of thing, no. Weird in the sense that it feels like it wasn't meant for you. Weird in the sense that it felt like somewhere you shouldn't be, or maybe somewhere you shouldn't be able to be. Maybe, if you're a particularly deep sleeper, weird in the sense that it feels like someone is watching you.
Hi, yeah. That's us.
We almost never intentionally manipulate the dreams, those feelings are usually just a byproduct of our presence. Think of it more like passive data collection, an observational study of sorts. Through a method accidentally discovered by our founder decades ago, we enter into dreams- usually randomly sampled based on location, time, and mental state,- get the information we need, then exit without making a scene.
It's a rather harmless procedure, you're in good hands.
We never physically interact with subjects, most of the time we aren't even that physically close to them. Often times we can't even identify them, other than what information their dreams will provide to us. The neural network casts a very strong signal, though it isn't easy to tap into, it can be accessed from great distances away, miles from the sleeping brain that transmits it.
Of course, all of this being said, I'm sure you're wondering what we use your dreams for. It's a perfectly natural question! But unfortunately, it's one without a simple answer, considering the range of data we collect and different studies we run. Further press releases will disclose some of our findings and applications, but given that this is just our public introduction, we don't want to overcomplicate things too much.
We can at the very least assure you it's being used for neutral purposes, no marketing campaigns or exploitation at play here. Just a team of dedicated scientists trying to understand the complex organ that is the human brain.
Any side effects reported on our in-house test subjects usually don't last longer than a few days-basic insomnia, paranoia, and minor hallucinations- no worse than your average reaction to night terrors.
We here at REEM (Rest Exploration and Experimentation Mill) thank you for your continued cooperation and contributions as we hope to enter a new era of sleep research and imaging, with further hopes to make our research findings public in due time.
See you around.
