20/28- Fables
Oblique Strategy- Assemble some of the elements in a group and treat the group
20- Fables
Focus back to the couch in the basement
The old beaten up one, that was still confusingly soft
Imagine how comfortable it was to sleep in
Maybe it was at your house, maybe your aunt's
Maybe a family friend's
Whatever couch in the basement works
Remember the holes in the fabric? The rips where the cover had worn off
The rough sandpapery middle layer
That kept all the stuffing inside
Or when you'd make a pillow fort from the cushions
And reduce it to its barest shell
Safety in the castle, safety in the hull
But the couch reveals vulnerability
Through shiny metal springs
And spiky metal framework-
Teeth lurking under the veil
Maybe you touched them intentionally, trying to see if it would really hurt
Maybe you sat forgetting that you had removed the futon's facade
Maybe you never noticed the blades, poking from just outside of view
Maybe you escaped it that time, but just that time
In the same manner that there's no such thing as a free lunch
(you'll pay them back eventually)
There's no such thing as a "soft couch"
All have more lurking under the throw
